Abstract

Peruvian university education faces the ongoing challenge of strengthening the quality of professional training by improving the academic performance of its faculty. In this context, employee engagement is especially relevant, representing a positive state of commitment, energy, and dedication that fosters the efficient development of teaching, research, and university social responsibility functions. Addressing this issue, this research article aimed to determine the impact of employee engagement on the quality of academic performance of faculty at the National University of San Marcos. The research employed a quantitative, applied approach with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, and explanatory design. The population consisted of 2,883 faculty members from the National University of San Marcos, from which a sample of 216 participants was selected using non-probability convenience sampling. Data was collected through a survey using a Likert-scale questionnaire, previously validated by expert judgment and subjected to reliability analysis using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Subsequently, the data were processed using the Jamoví software, applying descriptive and inferential statistical procedures to test the formulated hypotheses. This article is based on the reality experienced by public universities in the country, where faculty members assume increasing academic, administrative, and research responsibilities in an environment characterized by continuous processes of evaluation, accreditation, and educational transformation. These conditions make it essential to strengthen faculty commitment, since a higher level of engagement fosters pedagogical planning, the incorporation of innovative teaching strategies, the relevant assessment of learning, and compliance with the quality standards required by higher education.

In this sense, the research contributes to university management by providing evidence that allows us to understand the influence of engagement on the quality of academic performance. It also offers a foundation for the design of institutional strategies aimed at strengthening faculty well-being, promoting a committed organizational culture, and contributing to the continuous improvement of educational quality in Peruvian universities.
